Testimonials
“Dr. Greenwald has saved my quality of life twice in the past 18 years. In 1999 he fused 5 vertebrae in my neck and recently he performed surgery on my lower back that relieved pressure on nerves that prevented me from walking. He is a truly amazing surgeon.”
“Dr. Greenwald performed back surgery on my mother. She had been in so much pain before the surgery that she was nearly unable to walk. This surgery gave her her life back. Dr. Greenwald was so kind and so helpful.”
“Dr. Greenwald has done back surgeries on both my husband and I. I don’t think you can find a more caring, professional doctor anywhere. His staff is equally as caring and professional. I would highly recommend Dr. Greenwald.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Neurosurgery (Also Neurological Surgery)?
Simply put, it is surgery on any part of the nervous system, such as the brain or spinal cord. However, more technically neurosurgery constitutes a surgical specialty that provides care for patients in the treatment of pain or pathological processes that may modify the function or activity of the central nervous system (e.g. brain hypophysis & spinal cord), the peripheral nervous system (e.g. cranial, spinal & peripheral nerves), the autonomic nervous system, the supporting structures of these systems (e.g. meninges, skull & skull base & vertebral column), & their vascular supply (e.g. intracranial, extracranial & spinal vasculature).
How Can I Get An Appointment with Dr. Greenwald?
Dr. Greenwald is a neurosurgeon, and not everyone will need surgery. To make sure you are getting the correct treatment, we ask that you first have an appointment with your primary care physician or visit with a clinic to get an MRI or other appropriate test ordered. From there, your health care provider will send our office a referral including diagnostic test results for Dr. Greenwald to review. He will determine what the next should be.
Will You Work With My Insurance Company?
Our office accepts almost all of the major insurances. You can see a partial list on our website. If you don’t see your insurance listed, please give Ashli a call at 208-535-4800 and she would be happy to answer your questions.
What Should I Expect At My First Appointment?
If you have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Greenwald, it means he has already reviewed your diagnostic tests and referral from your provider. Our medical assistant, will take you into the examination room, review your medical history and take your vital signs. Dr. Greenwald will come in to discuss your symptoms and review your diagnostic tests with you and perform a non-invasive exam. You will then discuss the best neuro-surgical options available, beginning with conservative treatments such as medications. If these treatments fail to provide relief, Dr. Greenwald may recommend surgery.
Where Will I Have Surgery If Needed?
Dr. Greenwald performs surgery at Mountain View Hospital, Idaho Falls Community Hospital and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
